Things Fall Apart - Part 2

This is a continuation of our Monday post, where we discussed Part 1 of the 'Weekly Family Meeting", under the post, "Things Fall Apart" which is exactly what happens when you get overwhelmed by life.

After the first weekly meeting, use the individual calendars to create an agenda template that you can use every week. A template will help you develop a structure for the meeting that every one can count on. The template should have the following sections:

Review of The Previous Week's Calendar
  • Do this for each person
  • Make appropriate comments next to each entry e.g. done, re-scheduled, not done, require x to get it done.
Weekly Highlights
  • What went well during the week?
  • What did not go well?
  • What should be done to improve things next time?
Celebrate Successes
  • Acknowledge any successes you have had that week e.g. successful project at work, excellent grades or improvement from prior performance, chores done in a timely manner.

There is never enough time to do everything,
but there is always enough time to do the most important thing.
Brian Tracy

Review Upcoming Calendar
  • Transfer any pending events to the the new calendar for the week.
  • Add any new events that you are aware about.
  • Move any incomplete items to the upcoming calendar.
  • If you find that you have not tackled a task for 2 weeks, highlight the task and discuss it together. Why is it not getting done? Does it have to be done? Can it be done by someone else? Address the issue, and find a solution or your weekly calendar will become unmanageable.
  • Add new appointments and tasks to the calendar.

Once you get in the habit of these weekly meetings your life will run a lot smoother, your relationships will be more positive and there will be a lot more peace and happiness in your life.
