What we can learn from a night out!

The other day we had a guest from out of town who wanted to explore the Houston night life. It was quite an adventure because we had not been out in a really long time and we felt like were visiting another city. Luckily the night had some lessons to offer along the way.

Do your research
Our first stop was a lounge recommended by a friend which is also advertised on my local station. Two seemingly very credible sources. Anyway not to sound totally bourgeois, the place was quite the hole in the wall to put it really politely. I was willing to give it a try since they were supposed to have the best DJ in town. That did not prove to be completely true. After a half hour of attempting to enjoy ourselves, we left in search of better pastures.

Sometimes you need the right shoes
We decided to drive along a popular street that is renowned for the best clubs and lounges in the city. We made a few calls to get a few more recommendations. We arrived at one that seemed like a perfect fit. One of us even commented that it looked like a lounge in the movie (yeah we do not get out much:-). Anyway we parked our cars and got ready to have the night of our lives. When we got to the door and the music sounded just like what we all needed but we were turned away because one of us had rubber loafers and not leather shoes. Really?????

Make the right connections
In the face of rejection, we turned away and walked off in total embarrassment. We even tried to make a run for it convinced that someone we know saw us experience that humiliation. That proved rather difficult for the ladies wearing 5 inch heels which on any other day would be such an unhealthy thing to do. We called our friend that recommended the place and asked how he could set us up like that. He told us all we needed to do was say we knew him and we would get the VIP reception. Really??

If you keep trying you will get it right
After being rejected, we could not be deterred, we had to get in a great place and have a good time. We passed by one of our favorite restaurants which always has great music and a great happy hour. It was the most happening place in town and we had the time of our lives. The music and crowd were just right. The volume was just right to shout our conversations across the table.

Have fun on the journey
I gotta say we were happy cats when we got home that night . We had so much fun with that whole experience especially because we shared it with a great group of friends. We even managed to pick up some great fast food in the middle of the night. It was refreshing to relearn that even when times are hard there are opportunities to have fun along the way.
