How To Stop Telemarketers From Disturbing Your Peace and Quiet

Last week, we talked about reducing junk mail and thereafter someone asked me if there was a way to stop the pesky telemarketers who always choose to call at dinner time.

Yes, there is a way and actually the telemarketing industry is closely regulated by the FCC which means that unlike the "Do Not Mail" registry, you can file a complaint against a telemarketer.

To stop telemarketers from disturbing your peace and quiet, register on the National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov. Once your phone number is on the registry for 31 days, telemarketers should not call you.

You may also call 888-382-1222 but you must call from the phone number you wish to register.

After 31 days, if you receive any calls, you should submit a complaint on the same website. The registry works for both house and cell phones.

But not all calls are blocked. You will still receive calls from the following organizations:

  1. Non-profits
  2. Organizations that have an established relationship with
  3. Organizations that you have given prior permission
